Frequently asked questions

Pricing & subscription

What's free and what's paid?

Every learning course is free: elementary through university, the Foundations series, AP courses, Math Kangaroo, and MOEMS olympiad. Test prep (PSAT, SAT, ACT, AMC) is a one-time unlock per exam, and the optional Math Ladder AI Plus subscription ($9.99/month) supports upcoming AI-tutor features.

How do annual subscriptions work?

Annual bills once for 12 months at about 17% off the monthly rate ($99.99/year). Upgrading mid-cycle switches you to annual immediately with a fresh 12-month term. Every new account also starts with a 7-day free trial of the whole portal.

How do paused subscriptions work?

You can pause for up to three months from Settings → Subscription. Charges stop, your pricing is preserved, and you can resume any time. Learning content stays available while paused — only subscription features sleep.

How do I cancel?

Settings → Subscription → Cancel, effective immediately for future charges. One-time test-prep unlocks are yours forever and are not affected by cancelling the subscription.

What is your refund policy?

Web purchases: full refund within 14 days if the unlocked course has under 60 minutes of activity — write to support. App Store purchases follow Apple's refund process at reportaproblem.apple.com.

How do I update my credit card?

Web payments run through Stripe — use the "manage billing" link in Settings → Subscription (available once live payments are enabled). App Store subscriptions are managed in your Apple ID settings.

Do unlocks bought on iPhone/iPad work on the web?

Yes. Purchases made in the iOS app verify against your account and unlock everywhere you sign in — and vice versa.

Learning & assessment

How does placement work?

The adaptive diagnostic bisects the knowledge graph: each answer places whole regions of prerequisite topics, so ~30–40 questions place a multi-hundred-topic course. You can retake it any time from Settings — retakes only add to your profile.

What does "mastered" mean?

75%+ on a topic's practice, then retained through spaced reviews on an expanding schedule. See Understanding XP for how effort and mastery are measured separately.

Are the score projections official?

No — AP, PSAT, SAT, ACT and AMC projections are estimates from your timed mock performance on typical historical curves. They're built to be honest practice signals, not guarantees.

Can my student get extra time?

Yes — Settings → Accommodations extends every timed mock by 25% to 200%, mirroring common testing accommodations.

Families & documentation

What can supervising accounts do?

View only: progress reports and activity logs. Full control: also manage goals, accommodations, subscription, purchases, and the knowledge profile. Add supervisors in Settings.

Can I send records to a school or counselor?

Yes — Settings → Documentation emails the transcript, progress report, or a date-ranged activity log to any recipients (To + BCC), optionally with the course overview, full course contents, a methodology letter, and certificates of completion.

Is Math Ladder AI accredited?

Math Ladder AI is a supplemental mastery-learning system, not an accredited school. The methodology letter included with documentation explains exactly how mastery is verified so schools can evaluate the record on its merits.
